History

Though the reinforced concrete colossal statue wouldn't be completed until 1931, the idea of building a Christian monument in this area goes back to 1850. Today, Christ the Redeemer is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

The 30 metre (98 ft) structure is the largest Art Deco-style sculpture in the world and has become a symbol of Rio de Janeiro. The viewing platform at Christ the Redeemer also offers unparalleled views of Guanabara Bay and Rio.
